With a built-in resistance to the retrogressive inevitabilities of existence; her looks and social prowess are immortal. It's no surprise really, given that the sum of her life experiences extend to having to contend with balancing a dramatically top-heavy stature and defying the natural laws of gravity. Sigh. Life's tough when you're plastic perfection. Barbie was a loyal companion to the child we once were and is a fond memory to the adults we have become. And while we each continue to collect wrinkles of time in our human fabric, Barbie has retained her girlish good looks at 51 years of age, devoid of botox. No fair. She's become an aspirational figure - literally, much to the disdain of feminists who favour a more organic approach to femininity - translation; a burn the bra, don't shave your legs process of female preening. But she's been an asset to our economy as an inspiration to the Heidi Montag's and Silicon Valley residents of this world who are keeping our plastic surgeons in business. |
