Cover Story 2010 Design and Arts College
By Moocher Kate Pierson Images Kyle Williams
In a converted Christchurch warehouse, the silence produced by an audience's bated breath was deafening. At least until the lights doused the centred catwalk in ethereal light and aesthetic attitude dressed in more attitude stormed the stage.
This was the backdrop for the highly coveted and sold out Bedford based 2010 Design and Arts College 'Cover Story'; A platform for experimentation that encompassed 90 minutes of eclectic designs made by students who mixed imagination with innovation to realise inspiration.
For Cover Story, held on Monday May 31st twenty- ten, students were all about showing what they're made of. And, let's just say; going by the dark, mysterious and androgynous nature of many of these collections; it's definitely not sugar and spice.
In the first year collections, the brief was the 'seven deadly sins', yet; there was no definitive theme that bound these designers. Because when you invite student designers who are true to their own identity, to explore a particular concept; their self-definitive interpretation will dominate, meaning a cohesive creative vision will be non-existent, as they exercise their creative liberation.
